ASILENT - Recalibrated Chaos

Prepare for some brutal death metal from Singapore!

Its the resurrection cometh at the Rise Of The Metalheads gig that was held last week at Chapter 6 Studios. Featuring the bands such as Hellghast, Devastated By Hades and Backlash just to name a few, it was dominated by a heavily packed turn out who came in all forms of wear and swagger as the bands took the stage on a Saturday afternoon. The highlight of the event has to be the returning Dyeth with the band combating through their set with relentless aggression and their cover of Slipknot’s sic won the hearts of their fans, both old and new. New fads may appear and threaten to dethrone but metal will and forever stay strong! -Dalsix Höðr Visser

Luna Azure - Tragedus Invictum EP

Save the orchestral arrangements and beautiful songstresses making an appearance, the basics are not only important but at the same time, the only thing you will ever need in order to produce an excellent record and all it takes is a newcomer to set the record straight

Formed in 2010 by the one man mastermind Nekrolich, Luna Azure has released the EP Tragedus Invictum which comprises of 3 raw and gritty tracks with the help of Kianyong Tan being enlisted to unleash the battery. Complementing the grim melody that it brings, the idea of resurrecting the sound of early black metal has been carefully executed but at the risk of becoming a carbon copy recording? Far from it as the title track Tragedus Invictum proves otherwise with a seemingly mellow strum of the guitar before launching into a vortex of sinister purgatory with Nekrolich devouring the lyrical mayhem relentlessly and reminiscent of the 90s explosion all over again. While River Of The Naga Spirit primarily acts as a transitioning to Soul Devourer, it pays homage to the occult and Hitchcock styled noir film productions and the latter track is anything but mellow as Kianyong’s ferocious smashes syncs in tune with the growls of Nekrolich

Despite the increasing rarity of black metal bands playing in this aggression, Luna Azure have proven in the EP that all it takes is just the essence and absence of preservatives in order to make a powerful record. With bated breath we shall wait for a full length album from Nekrolich but for now, Tragedus Invictum is the quick shot that will satiate the lust of black metal fans steadfast to the old school production - Dalsix Höðr Visser

GRINDHOUSE II

Starring:

Truth Be Known (and a new member of the Debonair Gods)
Cardiac Necropsy
Analdicktion (This is rated R)
Assault (Bullets, Tanks & Battlefield Bruises)
No Rest For The Weary
A Bitter Affection

and Truth Corroded as the Foreign Legion

Directed by Bret Ong

With the audience settling down and putting on their 3D glasses to experience a revolutionary feel of music in the future as A Bitter Affection appeared onstage to a receptive crowd

Music was the law and aggression was the main trial of the day as the bands dusted off the feeling of lethargy and got on to business as usual with the likes of Assault making another appearance on the squared circle and unleashing a torrent of shrieks, riffs and beats to a ravenous crowd that have gathered at the Artshouse Chamber and if you expect Grindhouse II to be a brutal affair, it is anything but a tame affair with the returning Analdicktion ripping and raping holes, Cardiac Necropsy bringing the crowd to its knees with sweet suffocation delivered from their heart pounding music and No Rest For The Weary vindicating their name with every song dished out for the ravenous revellers.

Not to be outdone, alcohol sexpots Truth Be Known transformed the Chamber into another kind of monster altogether as the meaning ‘music for the people’ saw the band and the crowd being fused into a visual orgasm that definitely was the highlight for the night before the main act Truth Corroded carried on with the spirit of unity that has been witnessed in Grindhouse II. If the audience have never heard of the band, their setlist for that evening definitely would have garnered themselves a new legion of fans in Singapore and delivered the lights out to the Chamber as everyone who attended the gig got out with a smile etched at the corner of their lips

Resurrection II

The Boat Quay stretch has been renowned for its nightlife but on Sunday, that mantle was trampled upon by the feet of rampaging metalheads as Home Club played host to Resurrection II with headliners Rudra making an appearance to tie in with the release of Brahmavidya: Immortal I alongside IronfisT, Nafrat, Thy Fallen Kingdom, Assault and Zaganoth and did not take very long before the first act took to stage and launched an explosion.

From the moment Assault took the stage with their relentless fury, Cedric leading the line for extremists Nafrat to the sheer destruction masterminded by Thy Fallen Kingdom, it was total non-stop action from the participants and the crowd who did anything but to sit back and relax as the ground turned into the lions den. By the time Rudra made their appearance, the entire establishment waited with bated breath and adrenaline accelerating beyond the human limit as the venerable 4 piece launched into their setlist comprising of songs spanning throughout their distinguished history.

Be it the lesser known beginnings, anthems of rebellion or the established crowd favourite, the crowd sang and moshed to every single line like a well versed hymn giving the pathless path to the unknowable unknown a guiding light and hope for those waiting for their time to come. History and metal music, why not?

With the band recently participating in the Colombo Open Air festival, here are some behind the scenes shots of Rudra at the location of their upcoming music video in conjunction with Brahmavidya: Immortal I. Directed by Arv Ind, it promises to be a lesson back in time and a journey through your eyes, into your heart which burns with passion for the music you love - Dalsix Visser
